Whitney Plantation Juneteenth Freedom Festival

Stop by the Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Whitney Plantation to see staff from the Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses discuss the new database of enslaved residents. This digital initiative is the culmination of years of research and gives voice to the enslaved residents of the Hermann-Grima House, noting their ages, skills, dates of sale, and other notable information.
The festival will feature dance lessons from the Neungola Sibo African Dance & Drum Company, Inc., of New Orleans. Health screenings, including cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure checks, will be provided. New Orleans-based chef, cookbook author, and cultural ambassador Toya Boudy, will facilitate a mouth-watering conversation about the role that food has played in the lives and families of Black Louisianians since they arrived.
Shoppers may browse vendor booths selling artwork, apparel, jewelry, and crafts. Plus, there will be activities for children. Food, drinks, and treats by some of the most popular local vendors in St. John the Baptist and surrounding River Parishes will be available for purchase. Admission is free!
