Whitney Plantation Juneteenth Freedom Festival
Stop by the Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Whitney Plantation to see staff from the Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses discuss the new database of enslaved residents. This digital initiative is the culmination of years of research and gives voice to the enslaved residents of the Hermann-Grima House, noting their ages, skills, dates of sale, and other notable information.
The Freedom Festival will take place at Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana. This event celebrates African Americans’ rich heritage and resilience, marking a significant day in American history when news of emancipation reached the last enslaved individuals in Texas, symbolizing freedom and justice for all. Admission is free!
Shoppers may browse vendor booths selling artwork, apparel, jewelry, and crafts. Plus, there will be activities for children. Food, drinks, and treats by some of the most popular local vendors in St. John the Baptist and surrounding River Parishes will be available for purchase.
