Port Arthur Juneteenth 2023

Enjoy the plethora of festivities that Port Arthur offers for Juneteenth 2023! There’s a flag raising, a gospel explosion, the Ms. Juneteenth Pageant, an Alumni Softball Tournament, sneaker ball, a Torchlight Parade with even more activities to follow.

Do you know the history? On the 19th of June, 1865, enslaved people in Texas learned the Emancipation Proclamation was signed long before, on Jan. 1, 1863. Because of this, they discovered they were supposed to have been freed.

Texas made it an official holiday and has historically observed this date with various cultural celebrations since 1980. A bill was signed to declare Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021!
