Krewe of Spanish Town Parade & Party

The pink flamingo is said to represent the saying “poor taste is better than no taste at all,” which became somewhat of a mantra for the Spanish Town neighborhood as it grew to include more eclectic residents. The tradition of pink flamingos originates from the celebration of Spanish Town Mardi Gras.

Spanish Town paints The Red Stick pink as Baton Rouge goes to the birds – Flamingos, specifically – for this quirky parade that celebrates one of Baton Rouge’s oldest neighborhoods. The Spanish Town Mardi Gras parade begins on Spanish Town Road and finishes on the corner of River Road and North Street. Here’s the map to find out where the flamingo’s’re at!
