Galveston Island Beach Revue

Galveston’s summertime celebration of the island’s vintage past returns! This year’s event highlights numerous GHF properties for a weekend of classes, parties, contests, and more. Based on past island events from summer seasons, like the “Pageant of Pulchritude” and Splash Day, the Galveston Island Revue Weekend was resurrected into a contemporary event in 2009. Each year, contestants from around the United States vie for prizes, sashes, and more while the assembled crowds enjoy a weekend of retro fun.
Dubbed the “Pageant of Pulchritude” by C.E. Barfield, the Galveston beauty contest began in the summer of 1920 and, from then on, marked the kick-off for tourist season each year. Today’s Revue Weekend features events Friday through Sunday, the highlight being the Bathing Beauties Contest. The contest itself has become a must-see event as locals and tourists of all ages vie for a glimpse at the vintage swimsuits, parasols, and of course the “world-famous” Bathing Beauties themselves.
These beauties are also joined by another event full of lewks: Hot rods, rat rods, vintage trailers, and more will line up to take part in the Galveston Island Revue Weekend Car Show near Saengerfest Park! Prizes will be awarded in Best in Show (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), People’s Choice, Best Club Participation, and Judge’s Choice.
And that’s not all! The weekend is packed with more in the way of socials, cabaret, a pool party, a seaport social aboard the Tall Ship Elissa, a special discussion and jazz brunch with Dandy Wellington, and more!
Come out to see for yourself, and be part of Beach Revue history!
