Matagorda Mermaid Fishing Tournament

The longest running women’s offshore tournament on the Texas Gulf Coast happens where the Colorado River meets the Gulf of Mexico, in Matagorda. The tourny was established in 1986, with the first held at Allen’s Landing Bait Camp; it was a huge success with over 30 boat entries. After the devastating loss of Allen’s due to Hurricane Claudette in 2003, the tournament is now held in the beautiful Matagorda Harbor. The town of Matagorda is proud to host these seafaring women!
In turn, the 3-day Matagorda Mermaid Tournament gives back to the community via various local programs, including the Matagorda Historical Society, Matagorda Community Latchkey Program, and the Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department.
