Gulf of Mexico Conference 2024
GOMCON, the Gulf of Mexico Convention brings together coastal scientists and stakeholders in state and federal government, academia, non-profit, and private sectors to discuss current Gulf research and collaborate on new opportunities. Emphasizing the intersection of science, policy, and management, GOMCON includes sessions on themes important to ecosystem and community resilience as well as restoration and natural resource management.
The Opening Plenary, “Building Coastal Resilience in the Gulf: From Ecosystems to Communities,” centers around weather and climate and how to plan for resilience in the face of it all. Speakers include Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, Florida Chief Resilience Officer Wes Brooks, and University of Georgia Associate Dean and Professor Marshall Shepherd.
The Second Plenary, “Communicating the Impacts of Weather and Climate on Communities,” centers around communication best practices in regards to weather, climate, and risk mitigation. Speakers will include Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management (I-DIEM) CEO Chauncia Willis, Reinsurance Association of America President Frank Nutter, and Carl Parker from The Weather Channel.
