Dobie Dichos 2024
Dobie Dichos: Campfires, Chili con Carne, and the Words of J. Frank Dobie! We’d expect no less from an event honoring and spotlighting the tales of South Texas’ historical oracle.
Texas writers and performers from around the state read from, discuss, debate, and expound upon the works of Live Oak County’s most famous son. Prior to the program, a meal of chili con carne (the official dish of Texas), Pan de Campo (the official bread of Texas), dessert, and bottled water are served. Program + Meal tickets, plus beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Live acoustic music by Elliot Rogers, Rick Sowell, and Five Card Draw. This year’s program line-up spotlights Lee Ann Dye Barker, Heath Dollar, Kristina Downs, Alan C. Huffines, Glynis Strause, and James Wade.
As author Ann Weisgarber said, “Where else can you bring a chair, sit under the stars, feast on barbeque, and celebrate a literary giant? … Only at Dobie Dichos.” It’s been cited by The New York Times as “one of the most interesting events to attend” in Texas.
