Corpus Christi Juneteenth Fest & 10 Days of Jubilee 2024
Juneteenth, aka Freedom Day or Emancipation Day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday originated in Texas, and in 2021, was made a national holiday.
Each year, Corpus Christi, through the local chapter of the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPH), throws a big community-wide Juneteenth that stretch across 10 days!
It all starts with a Spirit of Emancipation Youth Poster Contest at the end of May. Then Juneteenth officially kicks off June 9 with the kick-off and continues with townhall forum, and a State of Black Businesses luncheon. Events continue into the weekend with the Back & White Dance & Comedy Show featuring comedian Rodney Perry and DJ Dallas Scratch. Then the totally free big festival weekend features headliners Tweet (!!!) and Slim Thug, Hilda Lamas, the Revalution, Caludia Melton, Jenni P & the Four Men, and the Bayou City Brass Band. It all wraps up with a Sunday Day of Service and Family Fun Day in the Park with a Happy Father’s Day free BBQ!
