Hurricane Idalia may have left the building, but relief efforts are just getting started! Rubble needs clearing, supplies need distributing, and homes and businesses will need rebuilding. We can’t all be on the ground for the effort, but we can support those organizations doing the work. Click through the links provided to learn about these reallife disaster relief heroes. The top link goes to each web page, and the link under each write-up goes to each organization’s Facebook page.
PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING THESE RESCUE AND RELIEF EFFORTS
The Cajun Navy is a network of volunteers that provides assistance to vulnerable populations impacted by natural disaster. Their Facebook page (linked below) will be the best place to find current information regarding supplies needed (diapers, canned goods, etc.) and real-time urgent needs, for whatever is required to complete their search and rescue efforts.
CCUSA has launched a dedicated Hurricane Idalia disaster donation page (linked above) to assist those displaced or suffering because of Hurricane Idalia. Their previous efforts during recent year’s Gulf storms have effectively lit up their extensive collaborative networks across many faith communities in the region. Learn more and donate.
Catholic Charities of NW Florida Updates
Click the link above to support the largest charity working to end hunger in the U.S. Partnering with food pantries and regional and local food programs, the Feeding America network prepares for hurricanes long before they arrive. And Feeding Florida is on the job! Food banks have emergency meals and bottled water ready to support shelters and additional disaster boxes are staged across the Southeast for quick delivery. Let’s help ’em out!
Another boots-on-the-ground, hands-on operation, Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. Even before the storm made landfall, TR was already staging route clearance teams, tasked with opening up roadways for first responders and more.
DRAW – Disaster Relief at Work
DRAW is dedicated to providing whatever the survivors of natural disasters need as soon as they need it. First response teams help survivors sift through the remains of their homes to salvage valuables, move fallen trees, and deliver buckets of needed supplies.
Thanks so much for your care in the wake of this trecherous Gulf Coast storm, and remember, every little bit helps! Of course, we have only listed just a few of the best and maybe less-on-the-radar relief efforts we know about here at GGS.
