Ben Folds at the Straz

Piano man Ben Folds was an unlikely alternative music star in the ’90s, leading a guitar-less trio (Ben Folds Five, of course) during grunge’s guitar-heavy heyday.

Since then, he’s maintained a solo career in music while branching out into film scoring, photography, podcasting, and producing: He helmed William Shatner’s 2004 album, Has Been. He’s headed back behind the piano and back on the road for another Paper Airplane Request Tour at which fans request songs by – yes! – throwing paper airplanes at Folds.
