Corpus Christi Juneteenth Fest & 10 Days of Jubilee
Juneteenth, aka Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday originated in Texas, and in 2021, was made a national holiday.
Corpus Christi, through the local chapter of the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education, throws a big community-wide party of parties that stretch across a week and a half.
It all starts Thu, June 9 with the kick-off offering Line-Dance Lessons. (You’ll see: Those will come in handy later in the week.) The week continues with events like Day of Service, black chamber of commerce get-togethers, and more. Fri, June 17 is the Back & White Dinner & Dance featuring Bryan Jack & the Zydeco Gamblers. Sat, June 18 is the big festival featuring Cupid (where those line-day lessons come into play), Chalie Boy, and the Bayou City Brass Band.
