Galveston Featherfest 2023

Galveston has a lot of feathers in its cap, but being designated as a Bird City Texas community in 2021 is a really big deal! It’s also a no-brainer as the island city hosts a wide variety of habitats in a small geographical area where some 300 species make their permanent or temporary home throughout the year.

Thousands of birds take wing to Galveston Island each spring during an arduous northward migration across the Gulf from Central and South America. Likewise, hundreds of tourists and neighbors follow suit to see more than 200 species of brightly-colored birds strut their stuff around our hometown – a prime location along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.

Featherfest comprises many events all along the Upper Texas Coast. This year’s festival HQ is at the Galveston Railroad Museum, where visitors may park and shuttle to birding sites via festival buses.
