The Billy Gibbons Texas History Experience
Check out the Bryan Museum’s exhibit dedicated to one of rock & roll’s most sharp-dressed Texans, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top! Visitors may examine the array of Gibbons’ personal collection of ornate and original Nudie Cohn Western-style suits worn onstage. His tools of the trade are also on view, featuring iconic guitars and stage equipment used in many a ZZ Top concert.
Some of the most intriguing parts of the exhibit are the areas that illustrate how a number of Gibbons’ song themes were ripped from pages of Texas history, legend, and lore, including “La Grange,” “Heard It on the X,” “Balinese,” and the album entitled Degüello. The story behind “Balinese” will be of special interest to folks familiar with the famous prohibition-era nightclub in Galveston, built on a pier stretching 600 feet from the Galveston Seawall over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
