The Billy Gibbons Texas History Experience

Check out the Bryan Museum’s exhibit dedicated to one of rock & roll’s most sharp-dressed Texans, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top! Visitors may examine the array of Gibbons’ personal collection of ornate and original Nudie Cohn Western-style suits worn onstage. His tools of the trade are also on view, featuring iconic guitars and stage equipment used in many a ZZ Top concert.

Some of the most intriguing parts of the exhibit are the areas that illustrate how a number of Gibbons’ song themes were ripped from pages of Texas history, legend, and lore, including โ€œLa Grange,โ€ โ€œHeard It on the X,โ€ โ€œBalinese,โ€ and the album entitled Degรผello. The story behind โ€œBalineseโ€ will be of special interest to folks familiar with the famous prohibition-era nightclub in Galveston, built on a pier stretching 600 feet from the Galveston Seawall over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
