Florida’s Territorial Bicentennial Closing Event
Join in the free closing event for Florida’s year-long Bicentennial Celebration, commemorating when Florida officially became a territory of the United States, from Spain on July 17, 1821. The main celebration took place on Saturday, July 17, 2021, exactly 200 years after the exchange for the Spanish and American flags, in Museum Plaza with a formal program, historical reenactments and plaque dedication.
This final celebration will feature the high energy Reunion Band. Then University of West Florida’s President Emeritus and Bicentennial Co-Chair, Dr. Judy Bense will welcome and invite Mayor Grover Robinson and Chief Dan Helms, Santa Rosa Creek Tribe, to help close out the year-long celebration.
